Patient Disputes & The Peer Review Process

One of the goals of TDA members is to provide the highest quality dental care possible. But, even in the best dentist-patient relationships, problems may occur. The first option should always be to have a frank open discussion with your dentist. Most likely, you and your dentist will be able to resolve the problem. If for some reason, you and your dentist cannot satisfactorily resolve the issue, you may ask for a Peer Review Mediation.

A Peer Review Mediation is a voluntary dispute resolution mechanism to facilitate member dentists in resolving disputes with patients. Peer Review is not a disciplinary process and therefore does not involve licensing issues. The TDA cannot accept complaints based solely on financial refunds. The TDA only mediates cases involving member dentists.

The following steps must be taken to begin the mediation process :

  1. Fill out the mediation form. Please use the space provided on the mediation form to state the specific problem(s) related to the treatment. The mediation form can be downloaded by clicking below or you can contact Angie Deacon at the TDA office (757-289-4044) to receive a copy.
  2. Return the completed form to Angie Deacon at angiebdeacon71@gmail.com or mail to: Tidewater Dental Association, P. O. Box 986, Virginia Beach, Va 23451
  3. Once your completed mediation form is received, we will begin the mediation process. A mediator from the committee will contact you.
